President of China (Taiwan) to visit Belize

The President of the Republic of China (Taiwan), His Excellency Ma Ying-jeou will be making an Official State Visit to Belize next week Wednesday 27th to Friday 29th May, 2009.

During his brief stay, President Ma will meet with Governor-General, Sir Colville Young, Prime Minister, Hon. Dean Barrow and Cabinet Ministers. Belmopan’s Mayor, His Worship Simeon Lopez will be handing him the symbolic keys for the City on his arrival.

President Ma will also be addressing a ceremonial joint session of the National Assembly in Belmopan.

A highlight of the President’s agenda on Thursday May 28th is the signing of agreements, a press conference and ground breaking for an ICT Center in Belmopan City, which is funded by the Government of Taiwan.

President Ma’s visit to Belize forms part of a tour of several countries while on his way to the June 1st inauguration of El Salvador’s president elect, Mauricio Funez. It marks 20 years of diplomatic relations between Belize and Taiwan which started in 1989.

The president of the Republic of China (Taiwan) leaves the country on the morning of Friday, May 29th.
