“If you are watching this message I have been assassinated…” The now viral video implicates the President of Guatemala in his murder and puts the Belize Special Agreement with Guatemala at risk.

The video accusation claims that President Alvaro Colom ordered his death because he knew too much about dirty deals the president had made with a money laundering bank. The lawyer Rodrigo Rosenberg Marzano represented a Khalil Musa who along with his daughter were shot dead in March of this year.

The Guardian had this to say:

“The Guatemalan newspaper Prensa Libre said the affair was the greatest political crisis since the country’s transition to democracy. “Never before has a democratically elected president been accused of murder,” it said.”

Belize’s Channel Five is reporting that:

“According to Rosenberg, Musa was killed because, as a member of the board of Guatemala’s Rural Development Bank, he found out about gross illicit transactions and refused to be a part of it. The government is the majority shareholder in the bank and the allegations include money laundering, embezzlement of public funds, financing front companies operated by drug traffickers and even funding nonexistent programs. As Musa’s lawyer, Rosenberg was allegedly provided with the details of those transactions and in the video, aired posthumously, he claimed that Musa’s murder was the government’s way of silencing him.”

Apparently, there is now concern that because of this scandal and chaos that is now taking over Guatemala the special agreement with President Colom to solve the border conflict with Belize be at risk.
