Unblock Skype In Belize: Join the Facebook Group. Lets join together to fight against this injustice.

Submitted by on Saturday, 13 June 20095 Comments

Belize News Post is leading the fight to unblock Skype in Belize. We have created a Facebook group. We encourage all who want net neutrality to join this group. This is democracy in action!
skype

We hope that this group will lead the fight to encourage change in Government policy. BTL’s blocking of skype is an injustice. Lets join together to create change. This group is less than a month old and already has 219 members.

Here are a couple of the comments from the group.

Why have BTL been allowed to do that when we live in a free Democratic society to choose,Belize really needs to move into the 21st century with the rest of the world.I live in Europe and for my parents in Belize it would be fantastic to be able to see and talk to their grandchildren and vice versa. Will need to look into this with more detail, surely there are legal implications to this.

Don’t u get it? BTL blocks these things to maintain their monopoly….it’s not about ppl coming in and taking advantage of Belize…it’s more like how to block out any competition…Ashcroft or not, anyone with a good business sense would have done the same, belizean or not…so in actuality we’re not being bullied by foreigners…we’re being victims of the profit incentive world.

Well, my question to you all is who is doing the blocking?. Where can I get more info on this? Is BTL a foreigner?

Belize is such a young country….our government still has so much to learn…..and it’s so sad that these foreigners recognize our vulnerability and come into our country and take advantage of the situation….people like Michael Ashcroft and all these other so-called hot shots need to be STOPPED!……people start standing up for yourself and your country!

BTL did this some years ago and, at the time, got clearence from the government to do so…this is no surprise. We never did find a way to circumvent their blocks…maybe now there are better techie ways to do so.

J-UNIT Thanks for the comment. As Belize News Post has previously reported solutions to this problem using VPNs or Virtual Private Networks is not a fool proof method since BTL has reportedly started blocking VPNs too. Thanks for sharing!
