Dallas City Counsel Member Visits Belize on City’s Dime
Belize is not often in the international news. When it is, it is usually has the words “tropical paradise” attached to it, or “hurricane” and recently “earthquake.” This next story is just downright funny: a Dallas City counsel member is accused of going to Belize on the city’s dollar and shows no remorse.
The Dallas Morning News is reporting that Carolyn Davis, member of Dallas’ city hall is sticking to her story about her visit to Belize.
She is accused of using the City of Dallas’ money to go vacation to Belize. She contends that she went to Belize as a trade ambassador between the City of Dallas and Belize.

She claims that, “Belize has a lot to offer to the city of Dallas, just like Africa.” She also said that Belize is a “wonderful country.”
Ms. Davis claims that she was simply enterprising when she spent $1,737.26 USD of the city’s money to fund the trip. This desire to increase trade between Belize and Dallas came even though she is not a part of the economic development committee, who usually deals with Dallas’ trade missions.
The economic committee’s chairman called the trip “odd”.
When asked if the trip was worth it, Ms. Davis replied, “absolutely.” The Dallas Morning News reports that there have been “discernible increase in the quality or quantity of the city’s Belizean flower or seafood imports.” If anyone knows of any increase in business between Belize and Dallas, Carolyn Davis would surely appreciate you letting the Dallas Morning News know.
