Crooked Tree News Reel

This video is a short news reel highlighting the village of Crooked Tree. The beginning of the video shows the “causeway” the connects the inland island that is Crooked Tree. Belize News Post reported earlier this year on how that road across the lagoons is wreaking havoc on the ecosystem of the lagoon and water system. This video is not about that story however, it highlights the Crooked Tree Cashew Festival and the Creole culture of Crooked Tree residents in 1996. Belize News Post’s favorite scene is the creole band playing a real jaw bone.

You can see in this scene shot the relative amount of water that existed in 1996. Compare that our images from 2008. The devastation of the ecosystem is clear.
