Images UMALALI Performing in Canada

Belize News Post is happy to publish these images from our community member, Harold Usher, who captured these images of the UMALALI performing in London, Canada.

A message from Harold:

Greetings! Here are the images I was able to gather yesterday Sunday, July 12, 2009. IMALALI were performing on a covered stage erected in the middle of a street.  The crowd is dancing to their music. My wife Melba (Wright) Usher, sister of Rev’d Linda Moguel, is on the left in jeans and black blouse. The other pictures were taken from the midst of the dancing crowd in front of the stage. These were taken with my cell phone. The performance was great and about 400 people were there, of which about 100 were dancing in the street.

The weather was perfect for the performance.

IMALALI performed on Friday evening, Saturday afternoon and Sunday evening. They did Belize Proud and I, a London City Council, Belize Bann (Dangriga to be exact) and my wife Melba, as well as several people who have been to Belize, were there to support them. They sang about six songs, and danced and acted superbly, Including Watika of Andy Palacio. They certainly talked a bit about Andy who had been here and performed at the same festival on the same stage in 2007. I remember that well. The members of IMALALI were delighted to see me and Melba at each of the performance. Most of them are quite familiar with all my relatives in Dangriga.

It was a delightful Experience.

Before performing in London, Ontario here, they performed in Toronto,
Ontario where several Belizeans saw them. From here they are heading for
Montreal, Quebec to perform there and then on to Vancouver, British
Columbia, before returning home to Belize.

We should be proud of those ladies, especially our own Desiree Diego.

Note: They are the only performer who performed three days at this Annual SUNFEST Feasta – The largest of its kind in Canada and really right in the heart of downtown London.

Does anyone know if they are planning any performances in NYC? Do they have a website I can check out?
