Ingredients

  • 2 to 3 large carrots, chopped (approx. 200g)
  • 1 large onion, chopped (approx. 150g)
  • 10-12 habanero peppers, seeded and chopped (approx. 60g)
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced (approx. 9g)
  • 375ml white vinegar (1½ cups)
  • 240ml lime juice (1 cup)
  • 10g salt (2 tsp)

How to make Belizean Style Habanero Sauce at home

  1. In a large pot, combine the chopped carrots, onion, white vinegar, lime juice, minced garlic, and salt.
  2. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat and let it simmer for 10 minutes, or until the carrots are soft.
  3. Add the habanero peppers to the pot and continue to cook for another 2 minutes.
  4. Carefully transfer the mixture to a blender or food processor and puree until smooth.
  5. For a smoother sauce, strain the mixture to remove any pulp.
  6. Pour the sauce into sterilized jars and seal tightly. Store in the refrigerator for up to 3 months.

If you are feeling adventurous try adding about 1 1/2 cups of either mangoes, peaches, or pineapple to this recipe. There is something about habaneros and mangoes for example that tastes amazing.
